It is the narrative infrastructure behind Revenge To Reckoning — the intellectual and emotional foundations that made Our Works possible, and that continue to shape everything Goby.Editz produces.

Our Triptych PhD Research Initiatives

  • I Am Because We Are — An AI-Assisted Autoethnographic Study of Neurodivergent and Trauma‑Informed Identity Formation Using Pain and Purpose Theory (PPT)

    This PhD positions Gino's own lived experience navigating severe ADHD, ASD, CPTSD, BPD, MDD, GAD, and subthreshold DID as the primary site of scholarly inquiry. Drawing on AI-assisted autoethnography, clinical documentation, and emotional mapping — and anchored in the theoretical frameworks of Pain and Purpose Theory (PPT) and The Legion of Emotions — it investigates how neurodivergent individuals navigate trauma, construct identity, and develop adaptive self-regulation strategies. Rather than studying these phenomena from the outside, this research is the phenomenon. The expected contribution is threefold: theoretical insights into resilience and identity formation, a methodological demonstration of rigorous AI-assisted autoethnography, and practical frameworks for self-directed adaptation.

  • Hulle Weet Nie Wat Ons Weet Nie — A Genealogical Mapping of South African Springbok Players and the Lived Validation of Pain and Purpose Theory (PPT) Through Elite Club Rugby Pathway Navigation

    This PhD sits at the empirical heart of the triptych. Where PhD 1 constructs Pain and Purpose Theory (PPT) through AI-assisted autoethnographic and clinical inquiry — this study subjects that theory to real-world validation across two interlocking empirical strands. The first is a genealogical systems analysis of Springbok player pathways from 1995–2023, mapping how race, class, schooling infrastructure, and geographic access have shaped elite selection across the post-apartheid era. The second is a reflexive, autoethnographic account of the Gino's own embodied navigation of those same pathways as a playing scrumhalf in Brackenfell Rugby Football Club (BRFC)'s third-team structure. The dual positioning — analyst and subject, scholar and athlete — is not incidental: it is the methodological instrument through which PPT's central claim is tested. That pain, when directed with rigour and purpose, becomes a generative force for identity consolidation.

  • The Prelude To — An Exegesis of Revenge to Reckoning and the Role of Narrative in Conveying Dissociative Realities Through the Lens of Pain and Purpose Theory (PPT)

    This PhD treats Revenge to Reckoning not merely as a creative work, but as a research artifact — a text to be examined, theorised, and situated within scholarly discourse on trauma, neurodivergence, and dissociative experience. Through practice-led research and reflexive AI-assisted autoethnographic analysis, it interrogates how narrative storytelling can serve as both a container and a conveyor of fragmented, dissociative realities. Pain and Purpose Theory (PPT) and The Legion of Emotions guide interpretation of emotional intensity, voice, and meaning-making across the twelve chapters. The contribution is significant: it advances methods for narrative-based research in psychology and identity studies, and expands scholarly representation of neurodivergent, trauma-informed voices in creative academia.
